For example, a serial number starting with MN2 would be 1992. Instruments made in the 2000s follow the same form but start with MZ. Sure a minor fret level/dress would help it and sure a neck reset would give it better oomph - but clearly that's not an option at this thing's price-point and it plays bang-on at the moment, anyhow - 3/32" EA and 1/16" DGBE at the 12th fret. For Mexican Fenders made in the 1990s, the serial will start with an MN followed by a number that indicates the year of the decade. I did the minimum effort required to get this going for its owner (these are, afterall, $100 instruments these days) which included shaving the bridge, ramping the string-slots behind the saddle, compensating the saddle, and setting it up. Therefore, all units with a 618NNNN serial number are from the year 1964. For example, serial number 618324 is from the production run 618 which consisted of 1000 Hagstrom II guitars started and completed in 1964. It has a lot better bass response and mids than you'd expect. Models of electric guitar included the Hagström 1, the H series (h II, h III, h II N), the Swede. Washburn guitars have used different serial number formats over the years, depending on the era and the factory where they were produced. Still, it's an average-looking dreadnought with a very average neck (25 1/2" scale, medium C shape, 14" or so radius to the board), but the sound is miraculously full on account of decent bracing under the hood. There is a small sticker on the back of the head under 'Made in Korea' with a serial number (9802407) printed below, but the serial number does not seem to follow the numbering system I have seen posted here and other places. It's somewhat ugly, truth be told - I've never been a fan of black pickguards and the cherry-red stain over the mystery-wood back and sides is not the best look. I recently purchased a MIK Sunburst Archtop guitar off of craigslist. It dates to 1990 per its serial number and I've confirmed that build from Washburn's own catalogs. While you might expect this guitar to be filed under my "don't bother to buy" category of flea-market adventuring, I have to say that it actually sounds really good for an all-ply, budget box. I just bought a Washburn R314KK parlor guitar.
